What it does
The Pill by Shelly is a thumb-sized Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module that runs from any 5 V USB-C supply. Plug in up to five DS18B20 temperature probes, or one DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor, and the readings appear in the Shelly Smart Control app. It also has three configurable 3.3 V input and output pins and a built-in voltmeter that reads from 0 to 2.5 V.
Clip-on add-ons take it further. The Analog add-on measures up to 30 V DC, which suits a 12 V or 24 V battery bank on an inverter, and the SSR add-on switches two small DC loads. With probes on a water tank or geyser pipe you can log temperatures through the day, and the Pill doubles as a Bluetooth gateway for Shelly BLU sensors and buttons nearby.
For more advanced setups, The Pill supports schedules, scripting, webhooks and MQTT, so it fits into a home automation system or a small commercial monitoring job as easily as a single-room project. Everything is set up in the free Shelly Smart Control app, and the module needs nothing more than a USB-C supply and a Wi-Fi network to run.
What you need
Needs a 5 V USB-C power supply, which is not listed in the box, and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Probes, sensors and add-ons are sold separately; DS18B20 probes must be the 3.5 mm jack version.
Install
Plug it into a USB-C supply and connect probes or add-ons. It is a low-voltage device, so there is no mains wiring involved.
