What it does
Shelly LoRa Add-On attaches to a compatible Shelly Gen3 or Gen4 device and gives it a long-range LoRa radio. Two devices fitted with add-ons can exchange commands and readings over distances of up to 5 km, depending on the terrain, well beyond the reach of Wi-Fi. Messages travel over Shelly's own long-range protocol and are encrypted with AES-CCM.
On a farm or a large plot, that means a relay at the borehole can respond to a device at the house, or a gate controller at the end of a long driveway can stay linked with no Wi-Fi out there. The add-on always works in pairs, with at least one sending and one receiving, and both ends must share the same LoRa settings.
Set-up happens in the host's web interface and in scripts rather than on a simple pairing screen, so it suits someone comfortable configuring Shelly devices. The host needs firmware 1.6 or later and carries on working normally with the add-on fitted. If you need both ends, the two-pack is the simpler buy.
What you need
Needs a compatible Shelly Gen3 or Gen4 device to attach to, and a second LoRa Add-On on another compatible device to talk to. Both are sold separately.
