What it does
Shelly 1 Gen3 is a one-channel Wi-Fi relay with a dry, potential-free contact rated 16 A at 240 V AC or 10 A at 30 V DC. Because the contact is separate from the supply that powers the device, it can switch a mains load, a low-voltage circuit, or simply close a pair of terminals on another piece of equipment.
That flexibility suits South African homes well. It can trigger a gate motor or garage door opener from your phone, switch a light circuit, or drive the coil of a contactor that in turn controls a pump. It can be powered from mains, 24 to 48 V DC or 12 V DC, so it also fits low-voltage installations. It acts as a Bluetooth gateway for Shelly BLU devices too.
What you need
Needs a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and the free Shelly Smart Control app. No hub is required.
Install
This device is wired into your mains or DB board and must be fitted by a registered electrician.
Fits behind an existing switch or in a junction box. On an AC supply it needs live and neutral. A registered electrician must fit it, as it connects to your mains wiring. They will follow Shelly's official wiring guide, linked on this page.
